Why do you answer these questions?

Posted on Aug 8th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 08, 2008:

Writing is a uniquely insightful way to address one's thoughts. Because it is not as immediate as a spoken conversation, I can take my time to consider the meaning of the question.

And, of course, they are almost always very good questions.

I usually read the question and think about it. If I don't have any immediate insight into the question, I'll leave it alone until some compelling, true realization comes to mind. Then I read the others' posts before writing, just to see if anyone else has already presented "my" ideas.

If I have written anything of value to others, then, with any luck, I get to read some lovely comments.

How do you allow for expansion in your life?

Posted on Aug 8th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 07, 2008:

I seek those "things" that offer a real connection to the divine (I'd like to think I've learned to instantly recognize this quality, but, of course, what I think is only a very small part of the whole). Things like Torah studies (and Talmud, Gospel, Gita, Sutra, Koran, etc.  studies), a great story, love, wisdom, music, charity, inspiration, art, nature . . . the list itself is expansive.

When I make an effort to realize the good in these things, I am always pleasantly reminded how the mind, heart, spirit and soul expands, and occasionally even transcends.

What do you prefer to do with others?

Posted on Aug 13th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 13, 2008:

I love to see others' inspired talents in full bloom. I think any expression of real inspiration is better when it involves as many people as possible. I have friends who are wonderfully gifted musicians, artists, writers, cooks, conversationalists, cultural exegetes, intellectuals, and some who are simply creative in any form they are given. It is always inspiring to experience their passion.

What was, or is, your dream career?

Posted on Aug 15th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 15, 2008:

Ideally, communicating big ideas to as many people as possible for more than merely comfortable pay.

Philosopher is an interesting job but the pay (and the audience) is purely abstract.
Rock Star sounds fun, and lucrative, but I am at least twice as old as my mystique.
Prophet and Court Jester are both risky but satisfying jobs, if you're good, but the pay and the retirement plan are a bit sketchy.

I would have a dream career as an artist if I sell a LOT more paintings.

Internet forum smartass . . . AHA! I can do that. Could I get an application?

What do you think about when you're feeling down?

Posted on Aug 19th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 19, 2008:

It won't always be like this.

When I'm feeling down, it reminds me of the bigger picture, that there is always more than this down-ness. And just as importantly, when I'm feeling up, it reminds me to fully appreciate and enjoy this moment, to not take any of this for granted.

I'm at the age where...

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 20, 2008:

I'm at the age where my mind is stronger than my body, and wiser than my senses.

Only recently have I wondered if my age means anything.

What's missing in modern society?

Posted on Aug 21st, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 14, 2008:

Nothing is missing, there just doesn't seem to be enough recognition, respect, appreciation or nurturance for our truly inspired, creative ideals, or for our idealists, those who realize what a good world this is if we just let it be.

Maybe all we need is, simply, to see it for what it is.

Of course, there is always a place for more enlightened humility, especially from the powerful (empowered enlightenment?), for more love, respect and curiosity for the unknown, more critical thought. There is always a home for more consciousness, more wisdom, more compassion, more creativity, more unity, more transcendence . . . more . . .

How do you feel about strangers?

Posted on Aug 29th, 2008 by Daniel : Human Daniel
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for August 29, 2008:

Strangers reflect you who you are. You see in the unknown what you are prepared to see, you see in the unknown some form of what you "know."

So, if a stranger appears to be wonderful, it is, at least in part, because you are full of wonder. If you see beauty, or danger, or simplicity, or complexity, it is because you are inclined to see these things.

In my experience, I have learned to trust and respect my instincts, just not exlusively.

Of course, good strangers become friends almost immediately.

Peace and Love
